REVIEW: PA - IN THE CITY
Part of a growing hip hop scene in Toronto, PA is throwing is name into the mix with the release
of his EP "In The City." If you're looking for the club bangers, this CD isn't for you. However,
if you're looking for a nice laid back sound, "In The City" is for you. And, with contributions
from Wyze Intellect, Blue, John Brickz & PA himself, the production is solid throughout.
The standout tracks on the EP are "It's In Me," "On Our Way" and "Recognize Real."
"Moms told me I was wasting my time/lacing these rhymes/couldn't comprehend this love of mine." This is
one of the lines from "On Our Way," a trackon which PA speaks about his dedication to hip hop.
PA also voices his opinion on the current state of hip hop in Recognize Real: "Hip hop is in a pitiful state/
you got the real mc's workin minimum wage/you got the pioneers gettin spit on their graves/you gotta kiss
somebody's ass just to spit on the stage."
There are a couple tracks that didn't quite stand out for me, those being "Ripping Mics" and "The One,"
but overall, PA's "In The City" is a great CD for anyone who's tired of the same old formula found
throughout hip hip and is worth the time to listen.
