REVIEW: STRICTLY UNDERGROUND
With their first release Mumbles Hip Hop brings us Strictly Underground, a
compilation of independent artists, mainly from across Canada. The CD starts
off with "Pieces Of A Man" by Fenaxiz, which features a nice, laid back beat,
which is followed up by another nice track in Shad's "New School Leaders."
"Spread Your Wings" by Freestyle is one of my favourites off the CD. It features
great production by Intackt, which stands out on a CD that is filled with solid
production. Another one of my favourites is the humourous "Who Does That?" The
track features Phatkhat7 & 2Twyst talking about random situations and then asking
"who does that?"
Other noteable tracks on Strictly Underground include Marvel's "IT," Fair One's
"Mother's Daughter" and "Ya Gotta" by Phocus.
Though Strictly Underground does run a little long and can get a little monotonous
after a few listens, with a number of producers and artists working together on this
compilation. This variety creates a nice mix of music which is a great showcase for
some of Canada's upcoming independent artists.
