REVIEW: CALE SAMPSON - CALE SAMPSON
You may have heard of Cale Sampson through his work with Rhythmicru. With his self-titled
debut he decided to release it as a double CD with the first disc serving as "The Album,"
while the second is "The Demo" containing some of his previous works and features.
While it is a solo album, Rhythmicru is present as D-Ray handles over half of the production
duties thoughout the CD's, with Classified, Kemo, DJ Mercilless, The Korce, Harper
and Nfact handling the rest. TheSnowyOwl and D-Ray drop a few verses on a couple of the
tracks as well.
The standouts on The Album portion of the double CD include a few more personal songs
in "Never Had A Choice", on which Cale speaks about his persistance in pursuing a music
career while dealing with the setbacks, and "It's Not Time", which deals with his
nearly losing his mother. Another great track is "Fed Up", a Classified produced,
Bonnie and Clyde-esque fantasy track.
The only track that really seemed lacking was "Distractions Part 2," which didn't really seem
to fit in with the rest of the album.
As I mentioned earlier, "The Demo" features some of Cale's previously released works.
The extra disc makes for a nice bonus as it gives the listener a chance to hear
Cale's progression as an emcee as it contains some standouts such as The Facts of War,
Hip Hop Head and the More or Les track Best Foot Forward, which Cale featured on.
With this release Cale Sampson does a great job of introducing himself as a solo artist,
and it is recommended to anyone who is a fan of hip hop.
