CANADIAN HIP HOP FILM BOUGHT BY PARAMOUNT VANTAGE
The Canadian film "How She Move," a drama about the hip hop step-dancing scene in the Jane and Finch area, has been
purchased by Paramount Vantage for a reported $3.4 million US after its premier at the Sundance Film Festival. The
film was purchased in association in MTV Films after a bidding war with several other distributors.
The film tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who uses step-dancing to earn her way back into a prestigious private
school and out of her crime-filled neighbourhood.
The screenplay was written by Annmarie Morais of Brantford and was directed by Ian Iqbal Rashid of Toronto. It stars
Rutina Wesley, Dwain Murphy and Brenna Gademans.
