INTERVIEW WITH KAE SUN
First thing first, introduce yourself to our readers.
Kae Sun is a musician and a learner, I sing, I rap , I play guitar, a
little bit of keys , I love to express myself through music and writing - I
like to think that I make meaningful music.
You're originally from Ghana. What is the music scene -specifically the hip hop scene- like over there?
I've been away from Ghana for a while, my guess is that a lot has changed
within the music scene there. But I know for a fact that hip-hop has
captured the imagination of young Ghanaians and its been like that for
years. That's how I fell in love with it along with other genres of foreign
and local music.
There are a number of genres that you draw upon in your music, what artists would you say have influenced you the most?
I have tons of influences from all over the musical map but I tend to be
drawn to artists who have an inspired message and an original way of
delivering that message, so any one from Curtis Mayfield to Lauryn Hill to
Citizen Cope to Cee-lo, Dennis Brown, the list goes on. Aside from God, I
think im inspired a lot by originality and captivating melodies.
Soliloquy was released about a year ago. What has the response been?
The response to Soliloquy has been really great, judging from the fact
that the album was under-produced and in all honesty it does sound like a
demo. I'm especially happy about being able to play the songs live and
having people appreciate it through the medium and also having received the
Hamilton music award that was encouraging.
So now it's time for album number 3, what can people expect this time around?
Like I said earlier, I think this album will really be the first for me
since its my first time recording being out of school and having the chance
to focus fully on my music and also this time around all the business has
been set straight and everything is in order . So this will really be my
first "professional" record.
What has been the most memorable moment so far in your music career?
I think the whole journey has been memorable. Being a kid born and raised
in Ghana, West Africa moving here to go to school and having the chance to
express myself musically and being very warmly received is mind boggling,
so the whole ride has been a highlight. Looking forward to the future. Off
course its been hard work but I'm glad that people still recognize and
accept talent for what it is. No gimmicks.
Looking back, is there anything you that you would've done differently in your career so far?
Its still a bit too early in my career to say what I would have done
differently. At this point , I think everything is just the way it should
be. All praises due.
Where will Kae Sun be in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?
Hard to say where I would be, but by God's grace if I am still alive, I
wanna be a better artist off course, would wanna reach a wider audience and
have a few timeless records under my belt.
