SYNTIFIK
Representing Vaughn, on the outskirts of Toronto, is an artist with the ability to stand head and shoulders
above the ever-growing Canadian Hip Hop Community. Syntifik has all the qualities of a complete emcee; A
distinctive drawly flow, strong lyrical prowess, fluid and structured song-writing ability, a deep-rooted
spiritual grounding, and most importantly the ability to reach people through music. "What I speak is
real, so you thirstin' to listen."
Syntifik (pron Scientific) has experienced quite a lot in the last year. His first single, the catchy 'The
Arrival', burned up T.O. radio during the 2nd quarter of 2002 and earned him a spot on Flow 93.5 'Blazin
New Joints' charts one week after its commercial release. He followed that up with the 2nd single,
'Trickin'. The DJ Serious produced track has made a big splash, helping to shake-off the sophomore jinx
that usually comes with the follow-up single. His soon to be finished E.P., 'The World I Live In', has
already received distribution with one of the hottest indies doing it right now, 'nuff Entertainment.
Combine that with grants from both Factor and Videofact and you've got a pretty good rookie campaign for
the young rapper.
'The Arrival', produced by Soze out of the Hustlemann crew, spending a few months in rotation on Toronto's
Flow 93.5 and at its peak was one of the stations most highly requested Canadian tracks. Syntifik's flow
and charisma matched perfectly with featured artist Diamond's smooth and precise vocals. That was the
single that put the city on notice, Syntifik was a player in the rap game.
With the distribution of his 1000 CD's on the Street promotion wrapping up in August of 2002 (see
www.13ronin.com for more info), Tifik prepared his second single, the
DJ Serious produced 'Trickin', for the fall. The catchy hook and addictive beat made the song a sureshot
hit. Just ask DJ Mastermind who said, "If 'Trickin' was any indication about this young MC's talents
- the country needs to watch out!!!!"
Heads got the message, as Trickin' can still be heard in primetime on major radio's hottest shows across
the country.
Sparkling Diamonds, the lead single from the EP, is the first video for Tifik. This song sees the emcee
spitting some 'jewels for the young brothas', a departure from his early radio songs. The World I Live In
finds Tifik doing that a lot. On the album he takes a very serious approach to, not only making a very
focused record, but also using it as a medium to drop knowledge on the youth.
Tifik's College and University campus show, The Arrival Tour, is back again for 2003. After closing 10
dates last year in Ontario, the tours producer, SEMS Entertainment, is looking to go countrywide this year.
"I'm looking forward to going out and doing Syntifik", says the versatile emcee, "it gives me a chance to
expand my fan base outside the city."
Being a part of 13 Ronin, an independent hip-hop crew in the city, Syntifik knows that a strong team, and
not one man, is what builds greatness. "We have no weak links at all" he said, "The whole team is strong".
Now the plan of attack now is to keep making music that the whole city feels. "Were just going to keep
flooding the city with the hottest hip-hop out there", says Shabby, of 13 Ronin, "we're not attempting to
be hard for the sake of mass appeal, were coming hard because Tifik speaks the truth and he needs to be
heard, period." And with that said, lets see what kind of trip these guys take us on!
