NOVA KANE

Nova Kane In 2006, a group of friends all hailing from the infamous Ridgeway (aka Ridge Block, Rotten Ridge, or, RNR) decided to turn their dream of being rappers into a reality. They formed a group called Rotten Ones, and set out to make a name for themselves. At the head of the group was Nova Kane. His goal was to get his group out there and to prove that collectively, they were a force to be reckoned with. But he knew that in order to get the full respect that they deserved, they’d all have to step out on their own and earn their stripes independently. Nova Kane, never backing down from and always seeking a challenge, decided he’d be the first.

In 2007, after much preparation and hard work, Nova Kane now known as Kane or The Bakers Man, broke loose with the mass production of his clothing line, “I’m So Rotten” apparel. The plan was to get the public’s attention with fashion first, so he and his people would be seen. And then once he had their attention, he’d present his music. The plan worked. The release of his clothing line was the opening act for the main show, the release of his solo mix tape, “Aint No Business Like Snow Business, Volume 1”. With this mix tape, he held no bars. To host it, he chose Juice of “Kamakaci” (a well respected and established clothing line in the GTA ) and the talented DJ Sureshot hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. And to sponsor the mix tape, he chose none other than the ever popular free mix tape downloading site, www.datpiff.com.

While creating the mix tape, Nova Kane had the blessing of bringing a Jr. Kane into the world. For Nova Kane, having his son marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life and gave him more motivation to make the best possible mix tape that he could. He knew that in order to do this he would have to seek out some of the best artists and producers in the GTA. And he did just that. Kane collaborated with; Mike Baggz, St. Laz, Rated R, Cavlar, Mayson Payne (of Western Union), and producers T-Nyce, and Neo Tempus. But no project is complete without family. So to make the mix tape that more intense he enlisted fellow Ridgeway artist Sir Crizzy (of Scrilla Fam), Danza, J-Reid, O.T., R. Cross, and none other than the talent of his own group Rotten Ones, and their super producer, Rich Kidd.

Nova KaneNova Kane was certain he had a banger on his hands and was anxious to let the world hear it. In April of 2007, the anticipation ended. The mix tape was officially released on April 10th on www.datpiff.com and has since gained the attention and respect of listeners around with the world with nearly six thousand listens and downloads to date. Needless to say, “No Business Like Snow Business” certainly was and still is a major success.

Since releasing the mix tape, Nova Kane has gone on to work with other notable artists such as; Allure, Billz, Harlem Young Dacutto, J Robb, Littles Da General, Jonny Roxx, Scorsese, J-Boogie, Ransom Dollars, Jig Grillz, Solid Mass, and Rugged One, just to name a few. The success of his first mix tape has inspired him to keep grinding and working towards his dreams. With this, Nova Kane is currently working on his second mix tape which will be released sometime this year in 2008.

Since the beginning Nova Kane has always had plans to be his own boss and he intends to keep those plans. He is not only determined to be Canada’s number one underground artist but he also intends to be a successful entrepreneur with his own chain of restaurants. He knows that he not only has to ensure a solid future for himself but more importantly for his son, so the stakes are higher. But Nova Kane isn’t worried. After all, a business man is a man that has more than one plan. And if there’s one thing that Nova Kane is, it’s a business man. And he’s proven that he has the perseverance, focus, and talent to achieve anything he puts his mind to.

His second mix tape, which has been titled, “I Hustle Hard Vol.1”, will be another step towards his goals and is guaranteed to be another heavy hitter. Nova Kane is on a roll and definitely has no intentions of stopping or slowing down for anyone. If you’re sleeping on him, you’re advised to wake up and pay attention because you’re bound to learn a thing or two.
