N.I.F.T.Y. (Nubian Intelligence From The Yahweh) is entirely about maximum effort for ultimate results. ‘Work’ is almost as natural as breathing – it has been the foundation of his whole young life.
“I grew up watching my mother work 12 hour shifts on a daily basis… I
thought that was normal. When other kids told me their parents
worked for 8 hours I thought they were strange! (laughs)”
The Toronto native can proudly boast of his multiple award nominations, his tireless tours across the continent, numerous television appearances and impressive tracks that have charted as high as #2 on Canadian radio. All with good reason; he has accomplished this with merely a 6-track EP, and more importantly, all before a record deal.
One might well ask, “how was all this possible?” The answer is immediate and absolute – N.I.F.T.Y.’s drive is unquestionable. He worked 3 part time jobs while attending university to fund his music and single-handily released his EP, which went on to sell over 2000 copies.
Although driven by his painstaking work ethic and gratified by each little success as it comes, N.I.F.T.Y. remains humble and very much grounded. He attributes this to his own background which has allowed him to connect with people from any walk of life. “I came from a broken home and had a child of my own at a very young age so I find it easy to relate to anybody and everybody...I believe my music is a reflection of that.”
Even at 24, Nifty has amassed a wealth of experience that he frequently shares with Canada’s youth as a motivational speaker. He puts his degree in psychology and sociology to use in enriching the minds of the upcoming generation. On the mic, he releases his message to the world, unafraid to address the social, political and spiritual issues that affect our community. In the studio, he employs another of his talents as one of the head producers for Red Kharpet Productions.
His debut album, “The Candidate” is a collection of songs that is intended to represent both the people and God in a truthful way. It showcases his down to earth personality and his boldness to speak on a variety of topics that other artists hesitate to approach. Be it empathizing through his own life’s experiences, painting pictures via lyrical story telling with a touch of divine inspiration, or just sharing some laughs; N.I.F.T.Y. demonstrates precisely why he is “The Candidate”.
