GHETTO CONCEPT
The concept is ghetto. Kwajo &
Dolo make up the infamous rap group Ghetto Concept. Their style is original and
versatile, true hip-hop sound. The duo met up in 1989 and were immediately
crowned as one of Canada’s most important hip-hop pioneers. Inspired by Whodini,
Run DMC, Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield, Ghetto Concept are influenced by true
life experiences.
In 1992, the then young MC’s met up with entrepreneur
Julien Arthur and released their first single “Certified” on the Indy label
Groove-a-Lot Records. After winning two consecutive Juno Awards (the American
equivalent to a Grammy) for “Certified” & “Easy on the Motion” in 1994 and
1995, Ghetto then honed their craft. They’ve traveled and showcased at various
national & international conferences, including Jack the Rapper.
In 1996 7Bills Entertainment was
born. “This isn’t just for us”, says lyricist Kwajo, “we started 7Bills
Entertainment for Angel Duss, Blacks, Ray Smoove. We have mad people comin’ up
with us.” Mad people are right, in 1998 on their self-titled album “Ghetto
Concept”, 7Bills showcased so many artists, they deserve a label deal. Looking
toward the future, Ghetto Concept has been able to maintain the longevity in
this crazy world. Hoping to capitalize on all they can Ghetto Concept have a
plan; to take over and conquer all facets of the entertainment
fields.
Ghetto have worked with some of the hottest names in the music industry: Run DMC,
Brand Nubian, Sticky Fingaz of ONYX, Eminem.
