DIE-REK
Who’s Die-Rek? What’s he all about? Well…he’s definitely not JUST another brother from another
mother! Derek Jordan, Born in Toronto, Dec 1978, raised up in Scarborough, this homosapien has
always had a passion and love for music, period. Growing up listening to Michael Jackson,
Prince, The Commodores, Big Daddy Kane, Maestro Fresh Wes, Special Ed, BDP, just to name a few,
he always knew he had what it took to make it in the music game………so the pursuit began.
At age 10 , every Thursday he would tune in to watch Rap City (in those days it only aired once
a week so if you missed it…you missed it), he wouldn’t miss an episode, on the weekends he would
have to lock himself in his bedroom and sneak a listen to the “Fantastic Voyage” with Ron Nelson
88.1fm because of all the profanity during the course of the show, hearing Toronto crews such as
“Rumble and Strong, KGB, Maestro, Michie Mee, S. Blank, Kish, HDV”, all of these people repp’n
his city just gave him more of a passion, thinking to himself “This is me, this is what I want to
do”. By the age of 13, Die-Rek really started working on his craft and in his early years of
highschool formed his first crew called “Young and Hard Hitting” which consisted of 3 members.
Getting older, each member had different plans, so the crew split and Die-Rek started to do his
own thing under the name “Unique Stylz”. Die-Rek would gain his rep by battling MC’s in the
streets and just spittin’ in ordinary ciphers they had at school. Though he would remain one
of the younger cats in the cipher that wouldn’t hold him back. In 1995-‘96 Die-Rek bucked up
with some other crews from Scarborough doing the same thing as himself, The Lyrical Coalition,
MVP, and the Hoard, better known now as Toronto’s own “The Mighty Monolith”. Now that Iron was
sharpening Iron, for some reason Die-Rek played the background, but remained supportive for his
bro’s at shows and live events.
While Growing hungry, Die-Rek started pondering life on the whole. Die began to seek the answers
to the questions that were in him in regards to God and just existence period. Years went by and
by 1999-2000 Die-Rek just drifted on his own. Didn’t hang much except with dudes down the street
and his bonafied since 95 “mary jane”. But Die was bothered, at nights he wouldn’t have peaceful
sleeps, he had “questions”. Although he was raised in church the realization of Jesus never really
started hitting him until he made that walk down an aisle in front of a church one Sunday afternoon
when his cousin was on his “death bed” and gave his life to Jesus. Although he did this he found
it very difficult to stop doing the bad habits he was doing and hang’n with the peeps around the
way, but something was different now, the desire to do bad wasn’t there anymore, although it had
looked as if it was.
Tough decisions were made, but none the less it was for the better, he wanted more. During a
process and help from God a lot of physical and spiritual ties were cut off from Die-Reks life.
In his early 20’s with a fresh commitment to Christ, Die-Rek felt a strong urge to come out for
Jesus.
“It’s been a while but when I look at my vinyl I see what God has done!” Through the years he has
better come to understand that this walk with God is not about events but rather process, true
love and really building for eternity.
Often confused for rapping on the “conscious tip” Die-Rek spits R-E-A-L-I-T-Y. In process for a
good minute and now after what seemed like a lifetime but in hind sight a “God second”, ready to
release and infect the multitudes, with True Life and Revolution, J Walk’n productions humbly
presents… Die-Rek with The Single “Questions” B/W “Come Alive”.
Currently being spun on Toronto’s college radio circuit shows like “Project Bounce” CIUT 89.5fm,
“Statik” and “Droppin’ Dimes” of CKLN 88.1fm, Sound Junction of CHRY 105.5fm and internationally
“Hot 95.3” in Barbados.
