ARABESQUE
In a market which is saturated with hedonistic ballers, geeky backpackers
and too rad for mom and dad thugs comes Arabesque. Also known as Aramaic, this
talented Toronto based hip hop act has been spitting since the age of 11 with
his first manager at 16. Arabesque's style is a combination of side splitting
humor, seventies soul, and political aggression. His humor is a junction
between neighbourhood asshole and the cast of SCTV. His lyricism has caught the
attention of pioneers such as King Tee (Likwit) to Shock G (Digital Underground).
Inspired by Al Green, Sly Stone, Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac
Hayes, Bobby Womac and Marvin Gaye, he probes the world of Soul as musical
enticement. Music with messages which spring positivity, the rhythms upbeat and
lively to melancholic, and lyrics which speak of brotherhood, justice, hope,
loss, freedom, sorrow, peace and love.
As a young artist with Christian Middle Eastern roots, Arabesque has faced
the worst in industry serpents. He has slapped hands with unlawful management
teams and has been handed memos of intent by baneful record label executives.
Regardless of all the disappointment and deceitful promises, Aramaic has become
a hail of fire.
Summer of 2001 Arabesque lost his soul mate to a fatal car accident. With
the loss of his girlfriend, his music acted as a sense of comfort. The wide
spectrum of musical genres continue to pacify his loss. Since then , soulful
melodies have replaced sorrowful memories and Arabesque continues to generate
timeless music.
